A Local Grooming Spot for Pampered Pets

This week’s local business spotlight goes to The Groom Room, an Apple Valley pet grooming salon with a warm, personal feel and a strong local following. If you have a dog or cat who needs a fresh cut, bath, nail trim, coat care, or just a little extra pampering, this is the kind of place that feels less like a big-box grooming stop and more like a trusted neighborhood pet-care partner.

The Groom Room describes its approach as a one-on-one personal atmosphere, which is especially helpful for pets who need a calmer, more patient grooming experience. Their social media shows plenty of happy pups, stylish trims, coat transformations, and a real love for the animals they care for — the kind of authentic local presence that makes a small business stand out.

With Lucy featured as this week’s adoptable pet, it felt like the perfect time to spotlight a local business that helps our furry family members look and feel their best. If your pet is overdue for a grooming day, The Groom Room is worth checking out.

🎯 THIS WEEK’S OPERATOR PLAY
Need a place to stage a fleet? This is a simple play: secure a truck yard footprint now, then decide whether to add improvements (fencing, lighting, office/storage) as your operation grows.

📍 0 Waalew Road, Apple Valley, CA 92307

Truck yard ready land on an industrial corner: 3.05 acres at the northwest corner of Waalew Rd & Ramona Rd. Flat, usable topography makes it an ideal footprint for a fleet operator who needs room for parking, staging, and maneuvering.

💡 Best Fit: Truck Yard / Fleet Staging

Owner/users who need a yard for tractors, trailers, box trucks, flatbeds, or work vehicles — with a layout concept that can handle upwards of ~70 trucks (configuration dependent). Add fencing/lighting/striping and you’ve got a scalable operation base.

  • Industrial zoning + flat topography = practical, usable yard potential.
  • Corner parcel for easier access planning and visibility.
  • Low basis for operators looking to control yard space instead of leasing.

Truck capacity is a conceptual estimate and depends on circulation, striping, trailer length, setbacks, and any required improvements. Buyer to verify zoning, utilities, specific plan details, and allowable uses with the Town of Apple Valley. Listing information deemed reliable but not guaranteed; subject to change without notice.

🐾 Adoptable Pet of the Week

Meet Lucy 💕 A Sweet Young Chihuahua Mix Looking for Her Forever Home

Lucy is a playful, affectionate young girl who loves her people, enjoys toys, and is ready for a patient home where she can truly thrive.

Adoptable Pet of the Week: Lucy — young Chihuahua mix looking for her forever home
Lucy • Chihuahua mix • young, playful, vocal, sweet, and ready for her forever family 🐶💕
✨ Lucy’s Highlights
  • Sweet young Chihuahua mix, estimated to be between 10 months and 1.5 years old
  • Spayed and up to date on vaccinations, with records ready to go
  • Loves her humans and wants to be close to her family
  • Gets along great with other dogs and can live with cats with proper correction and introductions
  • Playful, energetic, and expressive — she loves toys, especially squeaky ones!
  • Partially potty trained and currently uses puppy pads
  • A little skittish at first, but she just needs slow, gentle introductions and time to feel safe
  • Does not bite — she simply needs patience, love, and a calm approach

Say hello to Lucy, a sweet young Chihuahua mix with a playful personality and a big little-dog heart. She is estimated to be between 10 months and 1.5 years old, is already spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and has her records ready for her next home.

Lucy’s current owner is elderly and was originally told Lucy was much older than she actually is. Because Lucy is still young, active, and full of energy, it has become too difficult for her owner to keep up with her needs. Now, Lucy is looking for a patient, loving home where she can run, play, enjoy her toys, and settle in at her own pace.

Lucy may be a little skittish when she first meets someone new, but with slow introductions and gentle handling, she begins to feel safe. Once she warms up, she wants to be close to her people and will make a loyal, playful companion for the right family. If you have room in your heart for a sweet girl who just needs a little patience, Lucy may be the perfect match. 🐶💕

Closing Costs Can Catch Buyers Off Guard — But They Don’t Have To

From inspections to escrow and everything in between, knowing what to expect upfront can make the home-buying process smoother and less stressful. 🔑🏡

Breakdown of common buyer closing costs for homebuyers
Understanding common buyer costs ahead of time can help you feel more confident before closing day.

Closing costs can catch a lot of buyers off guard, but they do not have to. Many buyers focus mostly on the down payment, but there are several other expenses that can come up during the purchase process.

Depending on the property, loan program, and transaction, buyers may need to plan for items such as home inspections, appraisal fees, escrow costs, lender fees, title charges, prepaid taxes, insurance, and other closing-related expenses. These costs can vary, which is why it is so important to understand the numbers before you are sitting at the closing table.

My goal is to help you feel confident and prepared every step of the way. The more you know upfront, the smoother and less stressful your home-buying journey can be. If you are thinking about making a move, let’s talk through what to expect and build a plan that makes sense for you.

Wrightwood Edition

Historic ski jumping at Big Pines Recreation Camp near Wrightwood California in 1929
Ski jumping at Big Pines Recreation Camp, 1929 — a reminder that Wrightwood once had an almost-Olympic winter sports moment.

Here’s a Wrightwood-area fact that feels almost too surprising to be true: the Big Pines area once came close to hosting part of the 1932 Winter Olympics. Long before Mountain High became a familiar Southern California snow-day destination, Los Angeles County was developing Big Pines as a major mountain recreation area with skiing, tobogganing, ice skating, camping, and other outdoor attractions. By the late 1920s, the area had become so serious about winter sports that a major ski jump was built there, and Big Pines was considered for the Olympic Winter Games ski jump competition. The Games ultimately went to Lake Placid, New York, but for a brief moment, this quiet mountain community near Wrightwood was being imagined as a world-class winter sports destination. Not bad for a little town tucked into the pines!

Quick takeaway: Before Wrightwood was known for cozy cabins, mountain getaways, and weekend snow trips, the Big Pines area nearly had a front-row seat in Olympic history.

Question: Did you know the Wrightwood/Big Pines area once came close to being part of the Winter Olympics story?
