🎬 From Hollywood thrills to desert skies: In 1938–39, John Ford staged the heart-pounding chase in Stagecoach on Lucerne Dry Lake—right here in Lucerne Valley. Crews even softened roughly 20 acres of lakebed so stunt legend Yakima Canutt could pull off his under-the-coach drag, a move later echoed in Raiders of the Lost Ark. It’s a wild piece of film history hiding in plain sight on our local playa. 🚀 Decades later, the same lakebed became a high-power rocketry hot spot. The Rocketry Organization of California launches there under an FAA waiver up to 7,000 feet, drawing families, students, and engineers to watch homebuilt rockets leap off our desert floor.
